Picture of the Day: Gaga Sans Makeup

Lady Gaga is feeling the weight of the world on her Alexander McQueen-clad shoulders. Not only did she just launch an anti-bullying organization with Harvard University, but over the weekend, she said that she’s always wearing veils because she’s mourning the world’s problems: “People ask me why I wear veils. I reply, I’m mourning. Mourning what? Well I figure something shitty must be going on somewhere.” This came about a week after  her announcement that she’s taking a vow of media silence.

She took to Twitter to make another pointed statement yesterday when she tweeted out the above picture of herself without any makeup on in a bathroom, telling her little monsters to “Have a beautiful day!” The last time Gaga went all natural was for the October 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, and she told the magazine:

Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside . . . I think what has been lovely about my relationship with the public is that they expect something unexpected from me.

When your look is as defined by artifice as Gaga’s, going totally natural is definitely an unexpected move–but it’s also a move that’s in line with the trend of the day to “be yourself,” a message that’s glued itself onto everything that Gaga does, from her song “Born This Way,” to her anti-bullying agenda, to her support of equality, to her latest no-makeup fix.

Sassy Gossip

That said, let’s not forget that make-up and high-couture, when applied tastefully, can be things of beauty:
